Removable Dentures: Keeping Them Clean

Removable Dentures: Keeping Them Clean

Things to consider when dealing with maintaining good hygiene around implants under a denture or under a fixed prosthesis.

We often want what we can’t have don’t we? Sometimes this is true for patients seeking the most “like” prosthesis to match what they once had. When looking at options you might come across something like a fixed detachable. Though these are a nice prosthesis option, sometimes these aren’t warranted if there isn’t enough space vertically when you open your mouth depending where your implants are placed & this is something Dr. Bortolussi will always keep this in mind.

Keeping your fixed detachable clean can be hard if you don’t have the proper space between your gums and your prosthesis to get under and clean any debris out, which can lead to bacteria build up which could effect your implants in the long run. Dr. Bortolussi will not suggest a fixed detachable if space is not warranted, he has done continuing education to learn about other prosthesis options to fit every mouth that he comes across – he never stops learning for the benefit of your mouth & mouth health!

The choice will always be yours but Dr. Bortolussi will always try to lead you in the right direction keeping these things in mind.

Inside the denture there are attachments that help with retention.

The denture is secured snuggly on to abutments connected to your implants.
